Starting Wage: $70,000 to $90,000 per annum (commensurate with experience)

This permanent full-time position offers the opportunity to play a key role in supporting the financial health and accountability of the organization. You will work closely with senior leadership, contribute to strategic financial planning, and help ensure the responsible stewardship of resources that support Metis Settlement communities across Alberta.
What You’ll Do:
As Finance Officer, you will support the financial operations of MSGC and help maintain strong financial management practices across the organization. Key responsibilities include:
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records, general ledger accounts, and transaction documentation
- Processing accounts payable and accounts receivable, ensuring timely payments and accurate invoicing
- Recording and reconciling bank accounts, credit cards, and financial transactions
- Assisting with payroll processing, employee deductions, benefits administration, and remittances
- Supporting the preparation of T4s, Records of Employment, and year-end payroll reporting
- Assisting with budget preparation, financial forecasting, and expenditure tracking
- Preparing monthly financial reports and summaries for leadership
- Supporting grant compliance by providing financial information and documentation required for reporting
- Assisting with audit preparation and providing supporting financial documentation
- Managing financial records and maintaining both physical and digital filing systems
- Supporting procurement processes, contract tracking, and financial approvals
- Collaborating with staff across departments to improve financial workflows and reporting practices
- Ensuring compliance with MSGC financial policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements
What You Bring:
- Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in finance or accounting
- Experience working with non-profit organizations, Indigenous organizations, grant-funded programs and/or oil and gas industry is considered an asset
- Professional accounting designation or progress toward designation is considered an asset
- Extensive experience using accounting software, including QuickBooks
- Strong knowledge of full-cycle accounting and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Experience with payroll processing, tax remittances, and financial reporting
- Strong understanding of budgeting, financial controls, and grant compliance requirements
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment
