Metis Settlements General Council Justice Program

Programs And Services Development Department

Director: Angela Carifelle

Executive Portfolio:  Susan Cardinal Lamouche, Elected Secretary

Program Overview:

The Metis Settlements General Council (MSGC) Justice Program provides support to the eight Metis Settlements to establish Justice Committees, operate youth and adult diversion programs, and to further alternative measures programs for their community members.  The Justice Committees use mediation and family group conferencing to address criminal, family and civil matters.

The objectives of the program are to strengthen traditional justice values and traditional approaches to practicing justice in the community, and to support community wellness.  Relying on community elders and community members, the Justice Program focuses on families at risk and victim-offender reconciliation.  The program also offers conflict resolution and communication skills development.
